Troubleshooting
Windows 7
- In full screen mode, the colors can get all strange at startup after the graphics initialize:
- Just open any dialog from the menu and it will start working.
- In windowed mode the border of the windows are a bit off and draw some of the graphics:
- No workaround at this time.
Windows (all versions)
First, let me say that Microsoft DirectX completely feltches goat.
Just because it works on all the Win 95/98/NT machines we test on, doesn't
mean it won't randomly blow up for no good reason on your machine.
If the following hints don't help, send us a bug
report. We try to write the code so that it works on the maximum
number of configurations.
-
Screen goes blank / machine locks up / colormap get whacked, OR
- Graphics are sloooow...
-
Make sure you have the newest DirectDraw drivers. See the
Windows section of the download page.
-
Get the newest drivers for your video card. Go the the web
site for your PC manufacturer or for you video card manufacturer, e.g.www.compaq.com, www.dell.com,www.matrox.com. For example,
I know that a Compaq 5133 and Compaq 520 won't run full-screen XEvil without
updating the drivers.
-
Get a new video card. (Boy, isn't that helpful.)
-
Graphics are slow in windowed mode:
-
Set the display to 256 color mode. XEvil doesn't use more than 256
colors. To do this, right click on the background of the windows
desktop and select "Properties." Go to the "Settings" tab and set
the color palette to "256 colors". On Win95, you'll have to restart
the machine.
-
Windowed / full-screen mode still doesn't work:
-
Play the game in full-screen / windowed mode. See the Graphics Options
section of the Instruction Manual.
-
Controls don't work / can't figure out the controls:
-
Go to the Settings|Keys|Player 1 Keys menu. This dialog will show
you the current keyboard settings and let you change the controls.
-
To use the numeric keypad, make sure "Num Lock" is turned on.
