The Second Annual XEvil Tournament
Jan 22, 1997
Well, on Wednesday night we held the Second Annual IAP XEvil tournament.
In attendance were:
Arnold Seto
John Rusnak (last year's champion)
Eugene Shuster
James Robertson
Santiago "Shadow" Rivas
Randy
Play was standard "duel", with each player starting with two
extra
lives. No machines were present.
The first round was round-robin style, from which a top two were to be
selected for the final. Arnold Seto advanced to the final with a 5-0
record. A three-way tie for second place between Shadow, Randy, and
John Rusnak was settled by a three way duel. Randy won this, and
advanced to the final. Arnold defeated Randy in the final to win the
tournament.
Highlights of the tournament included John's use of Launcher missiles
to locate players when he couldn't see them, and Arnold's efforts to
arm his dopplegangers, to make them more effective.
Afterwards, the organizers joined three of the players in a 5-way
kill-fest. James consistently lead in the number of humans killed,
despite his insistence on camping out in doorways, flipping back and
forth between sides of the door.
Some quotes from the tournament:
"Missile is on fire" (seen onscreen)
"Hey guys, I'm the fire-demon! Just kidding." (playing the fire-demon
scenario in the kill-fest)
"I'm warping the space time continuum. Come join me!" (James
hopping
back and forth between opposite sides of a doorway)
"Which one's him, which ones are the dopplegangers?"
"Obviously the real John is cloaked" -Arnold
"What if you just walked around and pretended to be a doppleganger?"
(too many dopplegangers)

If you want the game-by-game results, email me. Also, we welcome
comments, criticisms, and suggestions. We'll be doing this again next
year, and we'd like to make it better if we can. One thing that we've
already decided to do is to publicize more (flyers, for example). What
else would make the tournament more interesting?
Thanks to all who played, and we look forward to next year's
tournament.
